Nevada AMBER Alert Ends as Mother and Child Found Safe in Churchill County

An AMBER alert that gripped Nevada ended on a positive note as authorities successfully located 10-month-old Lyric Smitten, who was reported missing and allegedly taken by his non-custodial mother, Chelsea Daniels. The alert, initiated on March 31, 2025, came after Daniels, at 27, reportedly abducted Lyric from Fallon, prompting a statewide search, intensified by the child's upcoming heart surgery.
What fueled the urgency was Daniels' alleged capacity to be armed—a claim which heightened concerns among law enforcement and the public. The suspected abduction unfolded with Daniels reported to be driving a distinct black 2006 Ford Explorer, Nevada license plate 714-S57, which became a focal point for police and citizens alike. Multiple alerts shared by the authorities did well to ignite public action, leading to crucial tips regarding the vehicle's whereabouts.
Joint Efforts Lead to Safe Recovery
The pursuit ended in Churchill County, a region that had become the nucleus of the rescue operation thanks to vigilant tips and the strategic use of cellphone data. A crucial sighting near Lahontan Elementary School set off a coordinated chase when deputies spotted the SUV on a secluded mountain road.
The capture, described as intense, concluded peacefully when Daniels decided against further flight, stopping the vehicle and being promptly taken into custody. Much to the relief of many, young Lyric was found unharmed in the SUV. His health, especially considering his impending heart surgery, was a paramount concern for both the family and officials.
Daniels currently faces a slew of charges, although specific details await further investigation and the formal filing process. The resolution to the saga was praised for its effectiveness, a testament to a multi-disciplinary approach combining efforts from Fallon Police Department, Nevada Highway Patrol, Nevada Division of Wildlife, and Banner EMS. Sheriff Richard Hickox was full of commendation for both the collaborative inter-agency effort and the proactive community that came together in an hour of need.
